LANSING, MI - Racing Commissioner Christine C. White today signed
the order
authorizing the 2008 live and simulcast horse racing calendar for
Mount
Pleasant Meadows, Michigan's mixed breed track.

includes
Quarter Horse, Thoroughbred, Arabian, Appaloosa and American Paint
Horse. The

White also signed orders for the four standardbred harness race
tracks as well
as a contingent order for a new thoroughbred meet in Romulus. Mount
Pleasant
Meadows will remain a sole mixed breed track.
Along with live racing, Michigan's pari-mutuel
racetracks will be open for
full-card simulcast wagering throughout the year giving patrons the
opportunity
to wager on broadcast races from tracks across North America and
other
continents. For additional information on Michigans 2008 horse

Michigan Bred
Program
|
Michigan Bred Arabians were granted $20,625 in 2002;
$16,800 in 2003 and $16,825 in 2004. In 2005 the
Light Horse Racing Grant was not broken down by
breed and the total money provided for Michigan Bred
light horses was $115,000.00 .
The Michigan Bred Grant fund adds money to the purse
equal to 75% of the race track funds assigned to a
race. Only Michigan Bred runners are eligible for
this additional purse money.
In 2006, ARAB in
conjunction with Mount Pleasant Meadows held a
Michigan Bred Overnight Stake with a purse
of $8,000.00
and only a minimal entry free. The
race had great response from owners and
breeders alike. In 2007 we are looking again to
encourage breeding in Michigan with similar races.
There are preliminary plans to hold two Michigan
Bred Stakes races.
Unlike most state bred
programs, the Michigan Breeders Incentive
Program, commonly referred to as the Michigan Bred
Program, is free. A full list of rules as well as
applications can be obtained from the contact below.

Did you know if you are a resident of Michigan and are currently breeding pure bred Arabians, you too could be a part of the Michigan Bred Program? Horses that are involved in
the Michigan Bred Program some times run for TWICE the purse money, non Michigan Breds do.
In 2006 Michigan Bred horses took home almost 20,000 in bonus purse
monies!!! ARAB held their second Stallion Service
Sale on January 13, 2007. The results were as follows, thank you
donators of these wonderful stallion breedings.

Re:General Rules Update

Please find attached the updated version of the Office of
Racing
Commissioner General Rules Section R 431.2090, R 431.2120, R
431.3075, R
431.3110, R 431.4001, and R 431.4180 of the Michigan
Administrative
Code.
1. The first rule changes from 30 days to 45 days the
current
racing eligibility requirement for Thoroughbred and
Standardbred horses
to have started, or been charted, within 30 days of their
next race.
2. The second rule defines mutuel entries and the
conditions for
coupling or uncoupling of horses for such entries. The rule
revises the
current definition of "Mutuel Entry" which requires that 2
or more
horses in a race that are either owned wholly or partly by
the same
owner(s) or are trained by the same trainer must be coupled
together as
a single betting interest in that race. The rule would
either eliminate
or make optional the requirements for coupling of same
trainers in the
definition of "Mutuel Entry," the pertinent rules for
Thoroughbred and
Standardbred racing breeds and the rules for wagers that
prohibit
uncoupling as a condition of the wager being offered.
